Carmen’s Homemade Gin

Recipe for gin that is vodka infused with herbs and spices at home. This makes a spiced, herbal blend. Other flavor profiles can be created by tweaking or adding ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 750 ml bottle unflavored vodka
  • 1/3 cup dried juniper berries
  • 1 tbsp coriander seed
  • 1 tsp dried lavender or chamomile
  • 1 tsp fennel seed
  • 3 green cardamom pods
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 3 whole peppercorns
  • 2 allspice berries
  • 1/2 of a whole star anise
  • 1 1/2 sprig fresh rosemary
  • 2 three inch orange twists
  • 1 three inch lemon twists
  • Optional: A few sprigs fresh thyme

Instructions

Pour all vodka into a sealable glass jar (32 oz ball jar recommended)Add juniper berries and let sit overnight, 24-30 hours. (Store in a dark place)The next day, measure out remaining ingredients into a small bowl. Test aromatics of your spice blend and adjust if needed.Add all ingredients to the vodka and juniper berries. Let sit overnight no longer than 30 hours.Strain infused gin into clean bottle using a combination of a funnel, mesh strainer, and a clean flour sack towel.
  1. Pour all vodka into a sealable glass jar (32 oz ball jar recommended)
  2. Add juniper berries and let sit overnight, 24-30 hours.
  3. Measure out remaining ingredients into small bowl.
  4. Test aromatics of your spice blend and adjust if needed.
  5. Add all ingredients to the vodka and juniper berries.
  6. Let sit overnight no longer than 30 hours.
  7. Strain infused gin into clean bottle using a combination of a funnel, mesh strainer, and a clean flour sack towel.
